Results for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher come on the same day, which makes the morning busier here than in a system that spreads them across two Thursdays. A household with an S4 and an S6 pupil gets both sets at once.

For anyone holding a university offer, the S5 Highers are usually the grades the offer was made on, so results day is when a place is confirmed rather than when an application starts. Scottish degrees generally run four years, and entry is often possible a year earlier by age than elsewhere, which is why S6 tends to be the year the application is settled rather than begun.

Grades come as A to D with No Award below, and a numerical band inside some grades. The band is worth reading: it says how comfortably a grade was reached, which is the better guide to whether the next level up is a reasonable step.

Common questions

When is results day 2027 in Scotland?
Tuesday 10 August 2027, for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher together. That is two days before A Level results in the rest of the UK.
Who awards the results now?
Qualifications Scotland. It replaced the SQA on 1 February 2026 and the SQA was dissolved later that month. Course names, certificates and the diet carried on unchanged.
What do the grades look like?
A to D, with No Award below D. Some grades also carry a numerical band, which shows how securely the grade was reached and is a useful signal when deciding whether to take a subject up a level.
