Fincho's job is to make "I'll plan my own studying" true. Your child gets a companion that knows their school and their week. You get the shape of that week, without having to be the one asking.
What you see
- Which days Fincho was opened without a nudge, and how long the study sessions were
- Plan completion and the twigs on the nest
- Practice done, weak spots found and resolved
- Grades from uploaded school reports, and the trend between reports
- The next milestone: mock, options, GCSE, UCAS deadline
- A Sunday email in plain English, generated from those numbers
What you don't
- The conversation with Pip, in any form
- What your child asked about, beyond the subject and the count
- Pip's notes on how your child learns (they can see and delete those)
Ask your child to show you their chat if you want to see it. That is a conversation between you two, and we stay out of it.
Built around the Welsh school year
Daily plans and a quiet record of which subjects feel easy, so GCSE options in Year 9 are a conversation with evidence, not a guess.
The made-for-Wales GCSEs, graded A* to G. Maths is one double-award course worth two GCSEs, with two tiers, so the tier decision is worth getting right early. Practice in WJEC's style, marked to the mark scheme.
Three or four subjects, usually with the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales alongside. The AS units sat in Year 12 already carry 40% of the final A Level, so the grade is half decided before Year 13 starts.
Questions parents ask
- Can I read my child's chat?
- No. Not the messages, not a summary. This is the one promise the product is built on, and your child is told it when they set up their login. You see when and how much Fincho was used, plans, practice results and grades.
- What if my child tells Pip something worrying?
- Pip is a study companion, not a counsellor. If a student writes about being unsafe or in serious distress, Pip gives a one-line pointer to Childline (0800 1111) and suggests talking to a trusted adult, then returns to school work. It does not counsel and does not alert you. We think a child who knows the chat is private is more likely to keep using the thing that helps them study.
- Does it do their homework?
- No. Pip refuses to write the essay or hand over the answer. It gives a hint, then a bigger hint, and only after the third request shows the working, and records that it did.
- Does it connect to the school?
- No. We don't plug into homework platforms or school portals. Your child tells Pip what was set and how it went, and uploads the school report when it comes. The school's term dates are read from the school's public website, with the source shown.
- How much does it cost?
- Nothing during the beta. If we charge later it will be one subscription per family, agreed in advance, and we will email you first.
- What does it run on?
- Large language models from OpenAI, called directly from a server we control. OpenAI does not train on data sent through its API. Model usage and cost are logged per family, which is how we keep it sustainable.
